Connections

Mobile devices can have many connections, these include:

  • USB
  • Lightning
  • NFC
  • Bluetooth
  • Hotspot

USB

A set of wired standards for data and power transfer. It is the most common connector found on mobile devices.

Lightning

A proprietary connector developed by Apple. It is similar to USB but only used on iPhones and other Apple devices.

NFC

Used for close range wireless connectivity to devices and other NFC enabled items. Commonly used for contactless payment systems.

Bluetooth

Wireless technology which uses the 2.4Ghz band to connect. Its range is around 10 meters but more modern versions can reach allot further. On some devices it may be a removable module or is fixed to the motherboard.

Hotspot

A feature on mobile devices which allows the device to share its cellular data connection with other devices via Wi-Fi.
